Also, are there any boards out there that will take two 2600 chips? I'd love to have a slot open for a second processor as my needs increase. How is does overclocking work on the Hackintosh? I would love to do so.

This HD in PCI slot idea is amazing! Granted I wouldn't be able to go any further than Pro Tools 10 on the HD rig, but that'd be fine, if I really needed something that 11 offered I could simply install 11 on a separate partition and use a different interface. Particularly as I'll be seeing how the Thunderbolt peripheral support goes.

I looked into it, if I do the build now, I can use the board with Ivy Bridge (at least the Z68 chipset is supposed to support it with a firmware upgrade) when it drops, and then upgrade to a supported board when the Panther chipset comes out with Thunderbolt support. Dispite that I'm on PT and Mac since 1998. But I did not what Avid wants you to do (all this disabling of all the security tools etc.) because I have to be online which for me is simply to risky with everything turned off. PS: Also tried Win7 and PT 9.0.5 on the same Machine. Upgrading from PCI-X to PCIe for rediculous 5k € never was an option for me.īut even for LE users it seems to be a cool option: These old cards go for about 500,- bucks on ebay. It is THE solution for everybody still hanging on PCI-X cards and old G5s who are not willing to go the HDX path but need to go forward somehow. I'm so happy to have saved so much money and have such a nice system running here that I can't believe it! It is one of the most stable system I ever owned.

So I gave it a try and installed them in my Hackintosh PC's PCI Slots - with the last pins hanging in the air.ĪND IT WORKED INSTANTLY!!! JUST LIKE THAT.

Due to the SSD drive all went on lightning fast!īut the best came in the end: Somewhere on the DUC I heard that the Pro Tools PCI-X cards never have been real PCI-X cards but PCI cards that simply don't use the last pins.

Then I installed Pro Tools 9.0.5 and all stuff that I needed - still not having any issues. It really immediatly feels like a Mac and soon lets you forget that it's just a PC underneath. Tonymacx86 Blog: iBoot + MultiBeast: Install Mac OS X on any Intel-based PC (donate if you succeed!) I installed MacOS 10.6.8 mostly following this guide: I only needed an other graphic card and chose a ATI4850 (a used one for 39,-€ on ebay). It was just a 1 year old PC built for audio purpose from a well know German dealer called DA-X, bases on a ASUS P7P55D Motherboard. I was thinking about investing in a new Mac Pro and an Upgrade from HD3 to HDX I gave a Hackintosh install a try.
